I'm flying to St. Louis (from Pittsburgh) later this week. I want to take my sidearm with me. I know that I have to check it and it has to be unloaded. What are your tips and tricks that you can offer?
Do you have a small safe that you use? Or a padded pistol case? Do you put a lock on your suitcase, too?
Thanks!

There was a Fobus model that looked like it might, but I don't know. I was on Youtube the other night and saw one that might be exactly what I'm looking for. If any of you would care to watch the video of it and give me your input, it would be greatly appreciated. Just type in "phalanx holsters", on Youtube. For additional info, there is the Phalanx Smart Holster website. Thanks! ........ P.S. They make different models to fit different guns and they DO make one to custom fit my gun. I would like input of any other type, example: practicality, functionality, etc. (for O.C.) Thanks again!

I'm VERY happy with it. Took it out to play last night and had to be careful where I aimed it. I had to be careful not to shine it on the neighbors houses, but then I would notice it was lighting up houses 2 blocks away. Had to start shining it up at trees. It has good throw and good flood. It sure does light up a room. Nice case, nice holster, Well anyway, I really love this light! Later!

Under the House legislation, people with a concealed carry permit in one state could carry a concealed weapon in every other state that gives people the right to carry concealed weapons. While states have various standards for issuing such permits, currently only Illinois and the District of Columbia prohibit the concealed carrying of weapons.

So a couple of months ago I was shopping around in a couple local gunshops in Lancaster County for a nice retention holster for my P250 (damn hard to find ).

I dropped the idea that I was looking for something OC-appropriate and both the owners jumped all over me about it. Both pretty much said the exact same thing: "Yeah it's legal, but why would you want to do it? You'll just be harassed by cops..". The one said he OC'd while in the shop, but nowhere else.

I would have thought that being so involved with 2A issues, they wouldn't be so strongly against OC. I could understand if they said "Yeah, it's not for me..." but they ended up really making me feel stupid for even bringing it up. Anyone else have experiences like this, and does anyone know of OC-friendly gunshops in the Lancaster/York/Harrisburg area?

Thanks,

I'm still confused about the legality of open carry in Philadelphia. According to our State Code - it is illegal ( § 6108 ), unless you have a concealed permit. I'm understanding that if you posses a CC permit, you can either OC or CC in Philadelphia. I keep reading & seeing (there's a video I'm going to try to attach to this) that the police in Philadelphia insist that if you own a CC permit, that you MUST conceal carry. Are the police in Philly harassing permit holders unnecessarily? Do you have the option to OC or CC if you have a valid LTCF? Furthermore, why does Philadelphia get a special pass regarding long guns? Is it really illegal to walk the streets of Philadelphia with a shotgun strapped over my shoulder? I thought that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court deferred this whole matter to our state constitution, which basically says that if you are within the boarders of this commonwealth, you MUST abide by the laws of the state & those laws supersede ANY & ALL local laws. This coming from the two decisions cited here from 1996. Anyway, if anyone can clarify this and boil the whole issue down for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
The land around the Reservoir is maintained by the PA Game Commission. There are signs all over the place (with the ACoE logo) that mention that no firearms may be carried, except for hunting.
Am I correct in thinking that this is considered federal property? I don't see any signage that calls it a federal park, so would they be able to regulate carry? A bit confused here...

Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families of the Carson City shooting. Too bad that the AK47 will get all of the press and how if we didn't have such weapons, this wouldn't have happened. You will always have mad men Hell bent on killing others one way or another. That's all the more reason why people should have the right and ability to defend themselves. You will never get rid of guns or mad men, so you can never get rid of the right to defend oneself. End of story!

A picnic brought people together who like to openly carry their weapons.

Daily Record/Sunday News

York, PA - Elizabeth Parson of Windsor Township bought a handgun for her husband, James, one Christmas because he hadn't owned a handgun in years.

He asked if she wanted to go to the range. She agreed.

Parson said she was scared to death the first few times, but the more her husband taught her and the more she learned about the weapon, the more comfortable she became.

"And I was also just a really good shot," she said. "Which was helpful, because if you're good at something, you want to do it."

Parson, who now owns a handgun herself, and her husband joined other gun enthusiasts wearing their weapons in plain view during an open-carry picnic Saturday at Glen Rock Park.

Pennsylvania law allows people carry a firearm in plain sight. The participants at the picnic had chatted through an online forum.

"It's a right we have and if we don't use it, it'll end up getting taken away," said James Jackson of Shrewsbury Township.

Some who openly carry a gun also have a permit to carry it concealed.

Supporters say they like openly carrying a gun for protection of loved ones, and it's a deterrent to people thinking of committing a crime.

Elizabeth and James Parson recalled the story of Suzanna Gratia Hupp, whose parents were gunned down in a 1991 massacre at a restaurant in Texas.

Hupp -- who had a permit to carry a concealed weapon -- had left her gun in the car that day because state law at the time prohibited her from taking it inside, James Parson said.

Perhaps if Hupp would have been carrying the gun, she would have been able to stop the massacre, Elizabeth Parson said. Hupp, a gun-rights advocate, later became a Texas House of Representative member.

"This is a right that we have, and I'm going to exercise that right," Elizabeth Parson said.

Opponents, such as Jeff Snyder of East Manchester Township, believe in the Second Amendment but do not agree with openly carrying a weapon.

Pennsylvania allows people to carry concealed weapons with a permit, he said.

"If a person openly carries, they're just asking for trouble," he said.

Openly carrying a weapon makes some people nervous, Snyder said. They don't know what the gun owner's motives are.

"The last thing I want is anyone to fear me," he said.

In addition, someone could try to steal the gun from the owner.

Matt Dubois of York Township, who openly carries a handgun, said it's a concern, but he tries to keep an awareness about him so he can anticipate problems.

"If someone's brazen enough to try and do that, they're going to try and harm me regardless of whether I'm carrying a gun or not," he said.

Dubois said he prefers to open carry because it's more comfortable, and it's easier to get to the weapon if he needs it.

He also thinks it's more of a polite way to carry it.

"Back in the day, the gentlemen wore it on the outside, and it was the scoundrels who concealed it," he said.
