New user, new to OC
Hey everyone. I am new to this site and i am also new to OC. I am 21 going on 22 i have owned a handgun and my LTCF shortly after i had turned 21. I have been reading about OC since i have purchased my Glock but i have yet to do it. I guess you can say i am kinda nervous since i am the only one of my friends that own and carry a handgun. I realize that it is legal to do so but nervous about being approached about it. I have read the posts about what to do if you have an encounter with the cops but i still am nervous. I do however CC very frequently pretty much every time i leave the house. I live in Lawrence county the purpose of this post is trying to find someone near me that is willing to go out and OC with me. I think that it would kinda ease me into it as well having someone that has done it and is very knowledgeable on how to react if i was approached. I apologize for not knowing all the terminology as well as u guys but like i said just now starting to post and what not. I appreciate any response and helpful tips for easing me into all of this.

Unfortunately I am not in your area but you are on the right path. Know the law and even if you cannot find someone in your area to OC with, just take it one day at a time. It will eventually become second nature.

RE: New user, new to OC
I'm not in your area or I'd OC with you. It is an unusual feeling at first. I started feeling comfortable with it in a fairly short amount of time. Take your time. OC only when you feel you are ready. I suggest you start out OC'ing in places you know to be OC friendly. (your local gun shop, perhaps?)

Print a few of the Gun Rights Flyers off this site to carry with you. Many people are uneducated on OC and may have questions about it.

RE: New user, new to OC
I'm just up in Mercer County (Grove City). OCing isn't that hard as your mind often makes it out to be. Like smithwessn said, carry where you are comfortable. I always recommend going to stores where people know you. Then you know they won't have any issues.

That said, I've been OCing for almost a year. No one has freaked out. Only a couple have asked questions, but it was always positive. I've even OCed around cops - and they didn't make a peep about it.

It's legal. Act like it's legal. If you are confident, people are more relaxed. If you look nervous (and shifty) then people get worried. Also, like it or not, the way you dress makes a difference. I'm usually in clean, good-looking clothes. I'm not talking about a suit, but a button-up shirt and nice jeans or pants goes a long way. Heck, with my buzz cut, people probably think I'm a cop...haha.

RE: New user, new to OC
Thanks guys appreciate everything... the more information and help i can get the better. I have another question as far as the best holster to use. I have a uncle mikes inside the pant holster and a blackhawk CQB holster. I figure the blackhawk would be the better because the gun locks in place.

Ya when i do finally decide to go out an OC i plan to have a few of those flyers with me. I am not really sure were i would go, local gun shop would be a good place to go.

Well i am like 30 min from grove city i head that way on the occasion usually to the outlets and to eat. Ya i figured as much about dressing the "part" i guess you could say. Dress confident act confident and i should be fine its jus that initial going out with out it covered up will be the issue with me more mental than anything. The biggest problem i will have with OC is i do not look my age i look a lot younger than i really am. So if a cop or someone see's me carrying i will be most likely stopped and questioned just about my age at least, but as well what underage kid would be dumb enough to flaunt that he has a weapon on him?

Well, if a cop sees you carrying, he doesn't have an RAS to stop you just by guessing that you might be under 18. He needs to have reasonable articulable suspicion that a crime is afoot.

The next time you are heading up my way and you want to carry, let me know! I'll meet up at the outlets or one of the restaurants. I've carried out there quite a bit (although Prime Outlet corporate is supposedly very antigun - but it has been sold recently). I've also carried a lot around my town and the surrounding area with absolutely no problems.

I've carried some in New Castle - like at Lowe's and Tractor Supply. Nothing around town, though.

RE: New user, new to OC
Ya true i didn't think about that. That they would need a reason to stop me and talk to me. The next time i plan to be up that way ill post something on here and let you know. I am in Lowe's all the time, i work construction so i am there at least 4 times a week. When did they sell the outlets? I haven't heard anything about that. I think after OC for the first few times after that i will be fine its just that in initial event that will be the most difficult.
