Welcome.

Questions are the beginning of knowledge. You don't have to be able to answer questions or be able to recite the UFA to post. Sharing experiences is a good way to add to the forum. Have fun.

RE: Another noob
The only real way to step on toes would be to ask "Why do you OC? Do you think this is the wild west or something? Do you need to prove your manhood?"

Yeah...that would be bad.

Otherwise, ask away!

Welcoeme Redeye.

Yesterday I went to work as usual. I was accosted by this one guy who read the story about the console meeting in the paper. He was not only upset that out of towners would go to the meeting. But they had the gall to oc. At this point I stated it is legal. He went on to say how no one should be allowed to carry. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

This is the same guy who told me that he once carried a gun when he ran a porn store.

Welcome, I don't get on here much myself but there are a bunch of great firearms owners here willing to help and share their experiences. They are just a little weird, not me though. LOL

The way he talks it must have been a Raven .25. He even went so far as to bring the news article with my pic in to work.

I got a pat on the back from one of the managers for standing up for myself, in support of the 2a.

RE: Another noob
Hey to all you old timers! I joined recently and have been reading through all the old post, but need help for something that I have not come across.

I have had my LTCF for almost five years, and do carry concealed. That is the good part. The bad part is the ration of S**T that I get from my wife when she realizes that I am carrying. Anyone have suggestions on convincing her it is the sensible thing to do.

I have tried using an example where she once had to be escorted from the Mall area around Christmas due to undesirables watching the doors. The next day there was a holdup listed in the paper. This did not help. The protection of her and the kids does not fly. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Thank you all for reading.

Tim

First of all welcome to all the new members.

Have you asked your wife, when you are not carrying, why she objects? Perhaps you can have a conversation over coffee - when no gun is on your waist. She may have some legitimate fears (in her eyes) that could be ironed out.

Have you tried taking her to the range and let her try firing a .22 to see if she likes it?

Do you know if she has any girlfriends that carry? Sometimes a female will listen to another female before they listen to a male. Sorry, but that is just the way it is lol.

If she ever wants to get together with some females and just talk or go shooting, I am sure there are a few that will be there for her to vent - have fun - and perhaps go to a range, even if she doesn't shoot that day.

Hope that helps a little.

RE: Another noob
tsor39,

My girlfriend is/was the same way. She's gotten over it pretty well for the most part, and generally objects less when I'm carrying in the city at night with her, or other times where to her it seems reasonable. From time to time though, she still makes a stink when I carry in what she deems a harmless environment, be it a restaurant or what have you. I've taken her to the range, and whether she'll admit it or not, she had fun, but still doesn't "like guns".

If I had it my way, I'd OC most of the time, after getting some retention training, but I CC for her sake. Just because she doesn't "like guns" doesn't mean I'm going to sacrifice our protection and not carry at all, you know? Tell her you're going to carry either way, and she should pick her battles and just let you CC, that's what I did.

And for the argument that "Well, nothing ever happens in (insert area of town)" or "Who's gonna shoot up (insert restaurant name)", etc., everywhere is safe until it's not safe anymore. Do you want to gamble on when that turning point might be?

RE: Another noob
Thanks for the words of wisdom.

The funny part is that when we first got together, she wanted to go shooting with me. As she aged, she got more refined. She feels that I have too many guns (I tell her you can never have enough). Every year when I renew my membership to the club, I ask if I should get her a membership.

I will do my best to cc whenever I am out, and hope she does not notice.

One thing that may help is to get her into a Basic Firearms/Protection class. Can anyone suggest one that would is worth going?

RE: Another noob
I heard about a good one at a shooting range in the poconos. They actually have a Ladies' Night, I believe. . . package deal with instruction, range time, rental and ammo. I believe the place is called the Pocono Pistol Club. http://poconopistol.com/
